Is off-campus housing near UNC Charlotte actually cheaper than living in the dorms?
Yes — and usually by a lot. UNC Charlotte on-campus housing with a required meal plan can run up to $16,528 a year. Our rooms start at $525/month, which works out to around $6,300/year. No mandatory dining contract attached. You pay for your room. That’s it. Most students and their families save thousands switching to off-campus.
What's actually included in the monthly rent?
Utilities are included in almost all of our units — electric, water, trash, and internet. Parking is included too. What you see is what you pay. No surprise bills at the end of the month, no roommate arguments about splitting the electric. One number, every month.
Who is actually managing these properties — is this a real company?
Yes. UNCC Rooms is managed by Queen City Management Services (QCMS) — a licensed North Carolina property management company and real estate brokerage (NC License No. 272964, Firm No. C24768). We’ve been managing Charlotte-area residential properties since 2013. There’s a real lease, a real team behind it, and a real process when something needs to be fixed.
How fast can I actually get approved and move in?
Application decisions typically come back within 24–48 hours after you submit all your documents. You need a government-issued photo ID, proof of enrollment or income, and rental history if you have it. No rental history? Not a dealbreaker — especially for first-time renters. Once you’re approved, move-in can happen within a week in most cases.
What if I can't qualify on my own — can a parent co-sign?
Yes. A parent or family member co-signer is common and completely welcome. The co-signer application fee is $50 — same as the applicant fee. They go through a standard background and credit check, get a full copy of the executed lease, and are listed on the contract.
